Silk saree care

Saree roll polishing — the finish a hand iron can't give silk.

Roll polishing is the last step in cleaning a silk saree: the full length is pressed evenly on a heated roller, which brings back the silk's natural sheen and a crisp, flat drape. At SSK White Collar it is included whenever we dry clean a silk saree — never charged on top.

What it does

Why silk is rolled, not ironed.

  • Presses the whole saree evenly, edge to edge — no patchy iron marks, no shine on the silk
  • Brings back the natural lustre of silk and zari after cleaning
  • Restores a crisp, flat drape and straight borders
  • Done after the saree is dry cleaned, so it is set clean rather than pressed with the day still in it

When a saree needs it

After wearing, and before storing.

A silk saree loses its finish wherever it is worn and handled: the pleats soften, the fall stops sitting flat, and the silk dulls along the folds. Cleaning lifts the dirt but not those creases — the roll press is what sets the saree straight again. It matters most before a saree goes back into storage, since creases left in silk for months become harder to remove and weaken the fibre along the fold.
